The <strong>Kevlar<\/strong> inserts, the 3-layer construction and the weight of the fabric make this one of the heaviest hardshells I have tested in the mountains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition to the robustness, you can also feel the <strong>elasticity of the fabric <\/strong>and notice the <strong>ergonomic<\/strong> and <strong>detailed<\/strong> <strong>design<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"800\" src=\"https:\/\/mountainreview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/CIMALP-VINSON-05.jpg\" alt=\"membrana ultrashell\" class=\"wp-image-25622\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mountainreview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/CIMALP-VINSON-05.jpg 800w, https:\/\/mountainreview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/CIMALP-VINSON-05-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/mountainreview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/CIMALP-VINSON-05-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/mountainreview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/CIMALP-VINSON-05-768x768.jpg 768w, https:\/\/mountainreview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/CIMALP-VINSON-05-65x65.jpg 65w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ultrashell membrane<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Ultrashell<\/strong> is a Cimalp patent and is a <strong>membrane<\/strong> that aims to combine the <strong>waterproofness<\/strong> of a hard shell with the <strong>breathability<\/strong> of a soft shell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I was able to test the waterproofing in a wet, dripping icefall and had no seepage whatsoever. The waterproofing seemed <strong>comparable to other three-layer shells<\/strong> with embossed membranes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As for <strong>breathability<\/strong>, I decided to wear the shell while climbing with skins on a very cold winter day, and I must admit that the Cimalp Vinson <strong>impressed<\/strong> me positively. The <strong>feeling of ventilation i<\/strong>s noticeable, especially when compared to many 3L shells on the market, although calling it extremely breathable is perhaps a bit much.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The two underarm zips also contribute to the breathability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, the <strong>waterproof\/breathable ratio<\/strong> is <strong>excellent<\/strong> and is definitely one of the strengths of this jacket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"800\" src=\"https:\/\/mountainreview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/CIMALP-VINSON-06.jpg\" alt=\"interno laminato Ultrashell\" class=\"wp-image-25623\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mountainreview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/CIMALP-VINSON-06.jpg 800w, https:\/\/mountainreview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/CIMALP-VINSON-06-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/mountainreview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/CIMALP-VINSON-06-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/mountainreview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/CIMALP-VINSON-06-768x768.jpg 768w, https:\/\/mountainreview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/CIMALP-VINSON-06-65x65.jpg 65w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Detail of the inside fabric<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hood<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong>Cimalp Vinson hood <\/strong>is definitely one of my least favorite elements of this shell. The fitting is not right especially with helmet use. The hood only reaches halfway and does not fully cover the head. For coverage, the hard visor helps to some extent, but still the fit did not completely convince me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong>side elastics<\/strong> of the hood are also difficult to set and come apart easily. The elastic waist also allows for further adjustment of the fit of the lower part.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Also positive is the rating of the <strong>chin closure<\/strong>, which reaches almost to below the nose. The collar is also embellished with a vent, to facilitate breathing.
