Test mode
I have tested the Ferrino Extreme 2 during summer mountaineering activities , both on glaciers and at lower altitudes, and on fall hikes with rather cold night temperatures but no high winds or precipitation. Importantly, this tent was designed and tested by Ferrino to withstand truly extreme conditions, such as winter expeditions or at very high altitudes, up to 8000 meters.

Materials
The first thing you notice when touching the Ferrino Extreme is the extraordinary lightness of its materials. The total weight is only 890 grams, which is truly incredible. This achievement is the result of careful work on fabrics and poles. The design focuses on combining strength and lightness.

The sheeting and floor are made of Bio-Based Dyneema® Fiber, which has a waterproofing capacity of 20,000 mm. This biological fiber offers the same characteristics as synthetic Dyneema, including abrasion, cut, and UV resistance. However, it produces 90 percent less carbon emissions. This sustainable material is derived from waste from the pulp and timber industry.
The structure is complemented by an Ecosensor™ recycled Nylon membrane. This membrane creates a lightweight, durable monolayer with excellent water-repellent capabilities.

A great deal of work was also done on the poles, which are made of Easton® carbon. This material, produced in the USA, is renowned for its high load-bearing capacity. It also effectively dampens stress, providing stability to the structure.
The strength of the Ferrino Extreme must always be considered in relation to its lightness. It is an ultra-light product and requires careful handling. Extra attention is needed to avoid accelerated wear and tear compared to heavier, more structured tents.

Assembly
The Ferrino Extreme 2 HL is notable for its ease and speed of assembly. Two poles arranged in an X shape support the structure. These poles easily fit into the provided slots. The entire process takes about five minutes and is intuitive, even without using the instructions.
A modern feature is the QR code on the tent bag. Scanning it gives access to a video tutorial.
Disassembly is just as simple. The carry bag is spacious, making it easy to store the tent without the hassle of repeatedly compressing the canvas.

Habitability
The Ferrino Extreme 2 HL provides enough space for two climbers but is designed with essentiality in mind. The interior dimensions are 210 cm long, 105 cm wide, and 90 cm high. While functional, these compact dimensions leave little room for gear or backpacks. You will probably need to store most of your equipment outside.
To enhance the tent’s habitability, Ferrino offers a separately purchasable apse. This addition provides extra storage and living space.

Entering and exiting the tent with two people requires some care. The limited space also makes activities like cooking or eating meals inside challenging.
This highlights the purpose of the Extreme 2. It prioritizes maximum lightness and practicality for specific uses. However, this comes at the expense of comfort and habitability.

Once folded, the tent is really not bulky (36 x 12 cm) as well as very light (890 g) thus confirming its extreme mountaineering vocation.

Details and features of the Ferrino Extreme 2
Among the most interesting details we have:
- Tubular side vents, adjustable to direct airflow into or out of the tent.
- Upper ventilation, which ensures good air recirculation, preventing internal condensation even in summer.

Internally, the equipment is minimal, with a small pocket for storing items such as cell phones or headlamps.

The stakes, small in size, are not ideal for soft snow. Ferrino recommends using ice axes or dead bodies for secure attachment.
The tension rods come with an adaptive system that helps manage stress in high winds. They evenly distribute the stress to the poles, enhancing stability.
The kit also includes a self-repair set for the membrane and poles. This is especially useful for handling unforeseen events.
