The best new products for those who love the mountains
When considering winter clothing and equipment, we paraphrased Bruce Lee’s saying: “Be like water. Adapt to the shape that contains you.” A phrase that, in our opinion, hides a great truth for us mountain lovers too.
Winters have changed, and we must adapt. This includes rethinking the way many outdoor products are designed.
After all, it is no surprise that winters are not what they used to be: less precipitation, unpredictable temperatures, changing conditions. But what does all this mean for those who manufacture and sell mountain clothing and equipment? And, above all, for those who buy them?
We have an idea, as Mountainreview.com is a privileged observatory of the moods and preferences of mountain enthusiasts. The request we receive most frequently can be summed up in one word: versatility!
Are conditions becoming unpredictable? Is there powder one day and ice the next? Then you need products that are flexible, designed to be functional and versatile.
Not that the era of hyper-specialization is over, no. However, alongside the need for specialized “tools,” there is an increasingly strong demand from the ‘enthusiast’ public for a product that performs well even when you don’t know for sure what the conditions “out there” will be like.
A form of resignation to the whims of the weather? No, just healthy realism! This is what mountain enthusiasts ask of manufacturers. Less flights of fancy, more practicality. To live through increasingly complicated winters in the simplest and most passionate way possible.
With these “wishes” in mind, we talked to outdoor companies and went to Prowinter in Bolzano, where we got our hands on and selected a list of almost 50 products that we think are perfect for simplifying our lives in the fall/winter of next year.
