MOUNTAINEERING WITH A 'NO FRILLS' PHILOSOPHY

recensioni Mountain Equipment

Maximum functionality with no frills design is the philosophy of Mountain Equipment, a company founded in Manchester in 1961. It was here, in a barn owned by founder Pete Hutchinson, that climbers and mountaineers of the calibre of Don Whillans, Doug Scott, Chris Bonington, Peter Boardman and Joe Tasker met, whose ideas helped shape the style of Mountain Equipment products.

Today, Mountain Equipment is still a small company, with all its ‘British’ style intact, specialising in the production of clothing, sleeping bags and backpacks for mountaineering and exploring ‘the most inhospitable regions of the planet’.

The company is also aware of its social responsibilities: it is a member of the independent Fair Wear Foundation, which promotes fair working conditions. It has also developed the DOWN CODEX® and DOWN CYCLE® projects for responsible animal husbandry. These projects eliminate stuffing and live plucking, and use recycled feathers and fabrics.
